How do you Increase Traffic to your New Blog? Beginners

Does the question “How to increase blog traffic to my new blog” pose more questions than it does solutions?  Do you have a new blog and have feelings of being overwhelmed?

If you are feeling like this, don’t despair because you are not alone.  You are not the first and you will certainly not be the last blogger who has questioned whether you will ever see traffic on your site.

Starting a blog is exciting and you may have a lot of energy to pour into it.  However, you may have found that the energy you once had is starting to disappear as you struggle to maintain momentum.

It is very common for bloggers to give up because they are not seeing the traffic that they are expecting.

It does however take time to build a blog and hard work to get that traffic coming your way.  I’m going, to be honest, here, blogging is NOT easy.

If you are in this for quick bucks, then it might be the wrong avenue for you.  There are a lot of twists and turns that you will need to take in order to reach your goal.

However, once you know how to increase blog traffic, you will notice that the wheel will start turning the momentum you are looking for will return.

1. Call in favors

Start with who you know!  Do you have any blogging friends that might be happy to share your new blog with the world?  Or if not, do you have friends on Facebook that would be happy to share?  Any word of mouth that you can receive, the better chance you have of reaching a wider audience and getting your name out there.

Once you have set up a Facebook page for your blog, invite all your friends to ‘like’ it.  That will give you initial followers to your page and their interaction will mean that other people will start to see your posts in their news feeds.

At the end of the day, your friends can only say no, so you have lost nothing by asking!  Stop questioning how to increase blog traffic from people you don’t know and first of all, think about the people you do know!

2. Use social media

If you want to know how to increase blog traffic, you need to know how to use social media!  Your accounts should all be set up, so start using them!  Remember the saying, social media = being social!  If you want to be a blogger that hides on the internet, you will not do very well.

You have to be seen to be everywhere, I can not emphasize that enough!

You should be posting your new blog posts to your accounts, and in turn, this will bring new traffic.

The Google search engines are certainly not going to find a brand new blog easily, so you are going to rely on your social media efforts in the beginning.

Make sure you have bookmarklets on your blog to enable easy sharing of your post. The bookmarklets are the icons that you see on blogs, and you can position them as you please.

You may find them at the beginning, end, or to the side of posts and you will soon work out what position works best for your site.

If people have to copy and paste your blog link and open up their social media profiles, let me tell you now….they won’t do it!  If you make it easy for them to share your work, then people will do so.  Make it so that it requires even the slightest bit of effort from your readers and you might as well forget about it.  It’s as simple as that!

Why not try out the bookmarklets on this post, and it will give you an idea of how they work!!

3. Participate online

You want to know how to increase blog traffic?  You need to engage and participate!!

You have set up your social profiles, your sharing your content and you are writing content on your blog regularly.

However, are you participating in the online world?  By that I mean, are you undertaking in blog commenting on other blogs in your niche?

Are you part of Facebook groups and Google + Communities in your niche?  Are you connecting with other bloggers in your niche?

If you are serious about knowing how to increase blog traffic, then you must be serious about participating online.

I will say it again and hopefully, it sinks in.  You have to BE SEEN TO BE EVERYWHERE, and that will take time and hard work on your part.  Are you ready to undertake the challenge or are you going to crawl into a corner and hope the world finds your blog?  I hope it’s not the latter!

4. Paid Advertising

If you want to get the ball rolling, you may consider using some paid ads.  There are a few options available so check out which one is more suitable for your site.  You may like to consider a Google Adwords or Facebook campaign.  Spend some time researching what type of paid advertising is going to work well for you, because there is not a ‘one size fits all approach.

5. Write some off-page content

Have you considered writing content that does not get posted to your blog?  Undertaking guest posting and press releases are a great way to widen your audience and bring new readership.  In these articles, you can include a link back to your blog.  It will also help search engines notice you because other pages are now linking to you.  It may seem like a huge task undertaking more writing when you have so much to do on your own blog, but it will certainly help speed up the process of obtaining traffic.

6. Keep posting

The more you post, the more you will get noticed.  It’s a pretty simple formula.  If you are only posting on your blog once a week, then your social media presence, SEO campaign, and building yourself as an authority in your niche are all going to be slower.

You need to be SEEN to be working on your blog, and the more you do this, the quicker you will notice traffic arrives.

Don’t however make the mistake of starting a posting regime that you can’t keep up.  It is better to be consistent than flood your blog with content, exhaust yourself and not be able to keep up with the pace you initially set.

Focus on steady and consistent posting and you will notice after time that your readership with grow with a return audience, subscribers, and that traffic level that you have ultimately been striving for.
